Commence the gushing praise!

I can't begin to describe how much I love this show. The humor, the characters, the animation (most of the time- durn Freelance Ltd.!)...Animaniacs is the ultimate television cartoon series.  I've loved this show ever since it premiered, and I still love it even though its been stamped into an oblivion by short-sighted network executives. I tried to help with the S.O.A.K (the Save Our Animaniacs Kampaign) but I didn't do much at all, obviously. (See below).  That frame appeared in the credits of the last episode, and marked the end.  I must admit, I was horrified at the time. I flooded Warner Bros. with letters of rage and anguish. I sent so many that I actually got a kind response from senior producer Tom Reugger. It was a rather unique gesture, I feel, and shows how much the people behind the show really cared for it themselves. But even if the show only had two real seasons and a bunch of scraped-together small ones, in this little animator's opinion, it is still the greatest cartoon series of television.  On the bright side:  Animaniacs has won a grand total of seven emmies and one Peabody Award.  It pushed the limits of what a children's cartoon series could be, and nothing like it has been done since. I mean, that's pretty special, and not just the short bus way.  Right now is the crummiest time for Animaniacs; its cancelled, forgotten by Warner Bros., and the nostalgia hasn't taken root yet.  But I know that in a few years, the Gods (Demons?) of Network television will turn around and dub Animaniacs a "childhood classic" and the show will enjoy a resurgance of interest.  I'm not holding my breath, but I am looking forward to that day.

Jo's Crowning Glory as an Animaniacs Fan!!

The time:  The weekend of July 4th, 1998.   The place:  KidsWB, and the Animaniac Attack Marathon.  The gimmick: Animaniacs fans were to mail in a postcard voting for a favorite Animaniacs episode to play during the marathon. So to compliment the "save Animaniacs  NOW" letters I had been sending for weeks, I polished off about thirty postcard votes, (because I have about thirty favorite episodes, natch).  Well, during the marathon's commercial breaks, the Warners would pop in and talk about what cartoons are coming up next, and guess what they said when they were previewing The Please Please Please Get A Life Foundation!  Take a listen! Extra special thanks to Fred Baker who made this magical phenomenon into an mp3 for me!  Grazie mille!
